I have to talk about the incident with the nurse who committed suicide. It is really bothering me. It’s very upsetting to know that she was pushed to that point. Where were the HIPPA laws? Why could she not just make the confidentiality statement like we do when someone calls. If I answer the phone I say “I am sorry but due to confidentiality I cannot acknowledge that the person is here without their consent” . And what would make me think for one moment that the hospital did not see this as an error and punish her? Maybe the fact that this was no ordinary patient caused her to get nervous and feel she had to give information over the phone. How many times in this lifetime will a nurse receive a call from a Queen? I feel very sad over this situation and my prayers go out to Jacintha and her loved ones. It’s sad that she died for being so caring and willing to go that extra step for her patient, another human being. May God bless her soul.
